Underwater Archaeological Sites: New Infrastructures in Thessaly

The project “Creation of Accessible Underwater Archaeological Sites (AUAS) in Alonissos and Western Pagasetic” is part of the “Thessaly 2021-2027” Program and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. Its objective is to develop the necessary infrastructure for the operation of accessible underwater archaeological sites in the Northern Sporades and the Western Pagasetic Gulf.

Digital cultural experience: Innovation in Information Centers

Within the framework of the project, digital applications (VR and other technologies) were developed and made accessible to the public through the Knowledge Awareness Centers (KACs) in Alonissos and Amaliapolis, in the Municipality of Almyros.

Culture and tourism: Development through maritime heritage

The project’s implementation contributes substantially to the promotion and protection of the region’s underwater cultural heritage, while also fostering local development through artistic and diving tourism.
