At the southern tip of Peristera Island, near the southeastern cape “Tselios”, lies an impressive shipwreck dating back to the Hellenistic period. The merchant ship sank just 50 meters from the coast and rests at a depth of approximately 35 meters, on a rocky bottom with a steep slope. A unique underwater monument that testifies to the commercial activity and naval know-how of the era.

Amphorae and trade in the Hellenistic period

In the Cape Tselios shipwreck, the visible part of the cargo consists of about 30 amphorae, which were used to transport goods — probably wine or oil. This find is a typical example of the intense commercial activity in the Aegean during the Hellenistic period, revealing aspects of daily life and maritime networks of the time.
